Destined to make history, the World Cup qualifiers will be the first-ever edition to be held in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region and will determine who will qualify for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup, to be held in Qatar. As hosts, Qatar will receive automatic qualification for the tournament.

Those African teams will comprise Angola, Congo DR, Guinea, Senegal, Mali, Uganda, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Libya, Nigeria, South Sudan, Cape Verde, Egypt, Madagascar, Rwanda, and Tunisia.

From November 2025 to March 2027, there will be six dedicated windows featuring 420 games across the globe, as 80 national teams from the four FIBA regions of Africa (16 teams), Americas (16 teams), Asia and Oceania (16 teams), and Europe (32 teams) will be battling to earn their tickets to Qatar.

During the most recent FIBA Basketball World Cup held in 2023, Africa was represented by Angola, Cape Verde, Egypt, Ivory Coast, and South Sudan. Notably, both Cape Verde and South Sudan made their World Cup debuts. All African teams secured one win each during the tournament; however, none advanced past the first round, leading them to participate in the 17th-32nd classification round.

The tournament concluded with Germany clinching their first-ever FIBA World Cup title by defeating Serbia 83-77 in the final. Dennis Schröder played a pivotal role in Germany's success, earning the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for his outstanding performances throughout the competition.
