The second day of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) Nile Conference qualifiers lit up BK Arena in Kigali with dominant performances from two Senegalese stars—Jean Jacques Boissy and Youssouph Ndoye—who led their respective teams to emphatic wins on Sunday, May 18th.
In the first game of the day, Al Ahli Tripoli of Libya crushed Kenya’s Nairobi City Thunder 115–87 in a one-sided affair that showcased the offensive brilliance of point guard Jean Jacques Boissy. The Senegalese playmaker was unstoppable, pouring in 30 points—18 of them from beyond the arc. Boissy also led the game in steals with 3 and sank 6 points from the free-throw line, demonstrating his all-around skill and leadership on the court.
Al Ahli’s 115-point tally didn’t just mark a win—it made history. It stands as the highest-scoring team performance in BAL history to date, a testament to their offensive power and Boissy’s commanding presence.
Later in the evening, the home crowd erupted as Rwanda’s APR delivered another statement win—this time against South Africa’s MBB—with a final score of 103–81. Center Youssouph Ndoye led the charge with 25 points, 9 rebounds, and 1 assist. He was a constant threat in the paint, combining physical presence with scoring precision.
APR’s big man Aliou Diarra continued his strong run of form as well, finishing with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 3 blocks. His defensive dominance was key in keeping MBB from gaining any rhythm.
The win highlighted APR’s team chemistry under Coach James Maye. The Rwandan side played fluid, selfless basketball with contributions from across the roster—marking a clear improvement from last year’s campaign. In 2024, APR missed out on the BAL Finals after losing key players Noel Obadiah and Adonis Filer to injury. This year, however, the Lions look deeper, healthier, and more determined.
Looking ahead, the third day of the Nile Conference is set for Tuesday, May 20th, and promises more excitement. Nairobi City Thunder will face MBB in a battle for redemption, while the two undefeated teams—APR and Al Ahli Tripoli—will go head-to-head in what is expected to be one of the most anticipated games of the qualifiers.
With Boissy and Ndoye continuing to shine, the Nile Conference is heating up—and the road to the BAL Playoffs is just getting started.
