Bella Murekatete has made headlines by joining the Washington State Cougars Women’s Basketball team in the NCAA Division I, following her outstanding performance leading her teammates in the World Cup pre-qualifiers.
These crucial pre-qualifiers aim to secure a spot in the Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments organized by FIBA. those games are set to take place in Kigali from August 19-25, 2024, at the BK Arena. The national team embarked on a ten-day training camp with top players from across the country.
Murekatete is not only one of the national team's standout players but also excelled in her personal achievements this past season. Over 36 games, she scored atleast 11 points per game, along with numerous rebounds and a block.
Her accomplishments go beyond this season, as she set several team records. She became the leading rebounder (990), blocker (188), and scorer in numerous games (153), while often featured in the top ten rankings.
Overall, she amassed a total of 1,552 points for the Washington State Cougars Women’s Basketball team, placing her in the top five for all-time scorers in its history.
Moreover, this year, Murekatete showcased her talents at the Women’s College All-Star Game, which is a major event in American collegiate basketball.
Murekatete has also been recruited by the Phoenix Mercury team in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), showing her skills at the basketball championship in the United States.
