New 'Zone 5' Tournament to be Launched

The teams from the Zone 5 region in basketball are set to introduce a new tournament that will include teams that have won national championships, while others have participated in the Basketball Africa League.

This tournament will feature teams from the Zone 5 area, including Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia, and Egypt.

It is expected to begin in November 2024, with matches possibly taking place in Zanzibar or Kenya.

Participating teams will include those that have won their national championships, such as the Rwanda Cup, recently won by APR BBC.

APR BBC is also competing for the national championship title, having won two out of three games against Patriots BBC. If APR BBC wins both titles, Patriots BBC would represent the country in this new tournament.

Each team will be allowed to have one naturalized player and two foreign players among the 12 players on their roster.

The tournament aims to provide teams with more international playing opportunities, complementing the Basketball Africa League, which has elevated the standard of the game on the African continent.
