Inside scoop: How Patriots keep their crown in Basketball League

Patriots Basketball club led by Henry Mwinuka is flying high after maintaining 14 unbeaten games in the Rwanda Basketball League with less than four to go.

At the beginning of this season, there were many worries for the fans of this team with how it ended last year with Espoir BBC in the Kamarampaka Games.

However, the team gathered and regained its strength and since sitting on the first place it has not lost it, beating the top contenders APR BBC and REG BBC in the first games giving themselves a solid lead.

In an interview with ‘Ballerzone’ Evode Munyeshuri, one of the basketball watchers in Rwanda, explained what is helping the team to perform well.

The Patriots, he said, have done well in the market for players both domestically and internationally by signing a good interior player like Frank Kamndoh and William Perry, a key player familiar with African and Rwandan leagues.

In the remaining four games of the regular season, the Patriots will visit Inspired Generation on July 21, followed by UGB on August 28, 2024.

The final two games will be played by the fans, with the 4th September hosting the APR BBC, and the final visiting the REG BBC on the 7th September 2024.

The top four teams in the league will immediately start the Kamarampaka Games scheduled to start on September 13, 2024.

Currently, the Patriots lead the league standings with 28 points, followed by APR BBC with 27, REG BBC with 25 and Tigers BBC in fourth with 23 points.

Patriots won the national championship four times in 2020, 2019, 2018 and 2016 and, having missed out on the title during the past three seasons, they are fighting to win this year’s title.
