Rwanda Energy Group (REG) Women Basketball Club clinched a decisive victory against rivals APR Women Basketball Club, winning 73-58. This win secures REG's spot at the top of the second round of the Hoops league table.
The game held on Wednesday at Lycée de Kigali gymnasium, kicked off with a strong start for REG, who dominated the first quarter with a 27-15 lead. The momentum continued into the second quarter, where REG outscored APR 35-29. By the end of the third quarter, REG had extended their lead to 59-43, eventually sealing the game with a final score of 73-58.
Rosine Micomyiza, a standout shooting guard for REG, led the scoring with an impressive 30 points. She was supported by Philoxy Destiny Promise, a Rwandan-American point guard, who contributed 16 points to the victory.
REG had strengthened their roster with key signings in American point guard Destiny Philoxy and Kenyan Mercy Wanyama during the second round, who made a difference during the matchup against the army team.
Head coach Esperance Mukaneza praised her players for their exceptional performance. “I am thrilled to see our team at the top of the table. We are ready for the playoffs, and I have full confidence in my squad,” she said.
With this win, REG lead the standings with 17 wins and 1 loss in 18 games played, totaling 35 points. APR which was unbeaten till this game, now they are in second place with 30 points, having played 1 game less.
