FERWABA announces teams for 2025 Genocide memorial basketball tournament
FERWABA has confirmed 12 local and international teams for the 2025 Genocide Memorial Basketball Tournament, scheduled for April 23–27 in Kigali.

The Rwanda Basketball Federation (FERWABA) has announced 12 teams, including foreign clubs, to participate in the 2025 Genocide Memorial Tournament (GMT), scheduled for April 23–27 in Kigali. The annual tournament aims to honor the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi through sport and remembrance.
This includes foreign clubs; Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) and Dar City from Tanzania set to join in the tournament from April 23 to 27 in Kigali .
The four-day event also pays tribute to over 30 basketball players, coaches, and administrators who lost their lives during the tragedy, with the tournament serving as a moment of remembrance within the basketball community.
KPA and Dar City from Tanzania were invited to participate in the men’s competition, while Uganda’s JKL Lady Dolphins and Kenya’s KPA will join local teams for the women’s tournament.
Participating Teams:
Men
Group A: APR, Rwanda Energy Group (REG), and Kenya Ports Authority (KPA)
Group B: Patriots, United Generation Basketball (UGB), and Dar City
Women
Group A: REG, EAUR, JKL Dolphins
Group B: APR, Kepler, and KPA
Previously, the APR men’s team defeated Patriots 80-63 in an epic final clash of the 2024 GMT. This was followed by the women’s final, which saw the army side again win the trophy after beating Rwanda Energy Group (REG) 86-81 after overtime.
