Are we expecting football after completing the pitch?
No. Football is a long-term project that starts from the Third Division and moves up to the First Division. When I was informed about its budget in the First Division, I felt we would be investing all school funds into the sport.
This was addressed by Nathalie Munyampenda, the head of Kepler.
She added, “Instead, we want to revive university competitions because that’s when students participate. We do not expect to engage in football, but we are focusing on other sports like tennis, cycling, golf, and running.”
Regarding football, we definitely cannot manage that now. We are planning for other sports around 2025 or 2026, and we are still figuring out how to do it properly.
Last year, in the Men's Volleyball Championship, we competed and finished second. This year, we aim to bring home the trophy. We are also not backing down in women's volleyball.
I’ve seen that APR WVC and Police WVC have brought in strong players, and we are doing the same, so it will be tough.
In ten years, we want to be a major force in sports—not just in teams, but also in medical support, gyms, and developing strong players to enhance the level of Rwandan athletes, so that teams can build on that.
We are specifically following this up to secure funding. Additionally, my personal goal is to elevate the standards of Rwandan players.
We need to support them well because if they are not well-prepared, they won’t be able to compete with those from America, Egypt, and elsewhere.
There are small things we should first address and do well, not just in one year, but over ten years to improve. If we do it right, we will eventually be able to compete internationally, similar to Nigeria in all sports.
Secondly, we need to find ways to elevate team standards, and this is not just our responsibility; I believe it's something to be studied by team leaders.
We want to see the championships rise. If we have three teams in the Champions League, we believe one team from Rwanda should win the Cup. Therefore, we need to set long-term goals.
